Restoring any car from the 1980s is going to require some serious work, but this 1988 Cadillac DeVille comes with some unique surprises.

Being restored by WD Detailing and documented on their YouTube channel, it appears there are some real surprises in store whilst exploring this vehicle that’s nearly four decades old.

After extensive vacuuming and power washing, the vehicle appears to be in reasonable condition despite not being able to run.

Yet the YouTube video documenting the cleanup process has one major surprise when the trunk is opened and it houses a nostalgic surprise inside.

The 1988 Cadillac DeVille is in questionable condition

The 1988 Cadillac DeVille is a vintage car that’s highly coveted, and this 36-year-old Cadillac is equipped with power seats and power windows – a true sign of being an 80s car.

Inside the car looks to be in good condition, bearing in mind it is nearly four decades old.

The ivory leather seating and burgundy carpet appear to have held up well, despite the outside of the car having been beaten by the elements and dirt.

Yet that’s as far as the good luck goes, as running the Cadillac is a no-go. The Cadillac would have had a 4.5 Litre engine in the 1988 model, which was an improved and enlarged version of the HT4100.

However, for this car, it seems it’s no longer working.

The burgundy paintwork and soft top have been covered in a thick layer of dirt and dust that will require some serious elbow grease to get off with vacuuming and power washing, and the engine isn’t in much nick either.

The vehicle doesn’t run or drive, and it appears that over the years rodents and raccoons have had their fill of the engine and destroyed much of its inner workings.

A surprise in the trunk

Now opening up the trunk is where the real surprise is, and it’s not what you’d expect from inside such an iconic car.

In the video, the WD Detailing team opens up the rear of the vehicle to see if there’s anything worthwhile left.

Yet opening up the boot revealed an unexpected treasure with cans of Mountain Dew that were over two decades old left inside.

The box of Mountain Dew cans from 2003 didn’t survive the years, unfortunately, as many of them had popped open and spilled inside the vehicle.

With the vehicle kept in a heated garage, it’s most likely that the warm temperatures saw the cans pop open, with liquid then spilling and covering everything inside.

With Mountain Dew being a sugary soft drink, it’s understandably left everything a little bit sticky inside. So alongside all the other jobs to get the Cadillac running again there’s cleaning to add to the list.
