Balenciaga has officially announced it will no longer be working with Kanye West – now known as ‘Ye’.
The rapper-turned-mogul has been under in fire in recent weeks for a series of controversial tweets, which led to his temporary ban from the platform.
Their collaboration began a couple of years ago when Balenciaga launched a three-way capsule collection with streetwear brand GAP and Ye’s footwear brand YEEZY.

Officially known as the ‘YEEZY GAP Engineered by Balenciaga’, the collection consists of exceedingly oversized clothes.
The hoodie, for example, features exaggerated drop shoulder and a large pouch at the front.
And then we have to mention the boots because they’re just insane.
Theyre are several different models, most of which are 3D printed.
More to the point, they’re all deliberately designed to look like they’re too big.
As you can imagine, people took to social media to share their opinions about them.
A user posted a picture of Ye wearing the boots, and he called them ‘Steroid boots’.
And that’s more than just a moniker: believe it or not that’s the official name of the boots.
Another user joked that Ye looks like Spongebob with those boots on.
But hey, fashion is fashion, right?
The Yeezy brand was first launched in 2009 in partnership with Nike.
The collection was limited to two editions, each available in a variety of colorways, including the famous ‘Red October’, which now sells for $15,000+ in the secondary market.
In 2015, Kanye West left Nike and began collaborating with Adidas.
The collaboration has produced a variety of Yeezy slides, slippers, boots and sneakers – including the super popular and super weird Foam Runner.
Yeezys are notoriusly hard to get at retail, which makes them extremely popular with resellers.
In April 2021, a pair of Kanye West-worn Nike Air Yeezy 1 prototypes sold for $1.8 million.
