The new Acura NSX successor is coming — the company is working on it and making fast progress.

If everything goes to plan, a production model could be unveiled as early as 2027, if not 2026.

But there’s a massive catch, and it’s exactly what you think.

Yep, it’ll be electric.

The Acura NSX is one of those cars that people love ‘in the moment’ and absolutely worship in hindsight.

When it first came out, Acura and its parent company, Honda, marketed it as a sports car with Ferrari performance levels but for way less money.

And that’s exactly what it was.

The modern-day version, unveiled a couple of years ago as the brand’s most powerful car ever, could be included in the same conversation.

While not as inexpensive as the first one, it was still a lot ‘cheaper’ than its European rivals.

Why the Acura NSX may come with a different name

The first thing we should point out is the next Acura NSX may not be called the NSX.

As Motor1 reported, Honda’s global executive officer, Shinji Aoyama, said they’re not yet sure whether to call it the NSX or something else.

This brings us to the reason why Acura and Honda are thinking about using a different name, and that’s the powertrain.

The next Acura NSX, or NSX-like vehicle, will be built using Honda’s 0 Series electric platform, so it won’t be the same as its predecessor.

Automakers do it all the time — they take an iconic name and use it for a different car.

Ford did it with the Mustang Mach-E, which is a record-breaking EV but definitely not a muscle car and Lexus also did it with the LFA.

The problem is that fans and buyers aren’t always on board.

What to expect from the new NSX

The current-gen NSX puts out 600 horsepower, so the newer one will certainly have more power than that.

That’s for sure.

It’ll also be faster off the line, because, as we all know, EVs are generally capable of incredible acceleration.

Visually, it will loosely be based on, or at least inspired by, the Electric Vision, a design study unveiled at last year’s Monterey Car Week.

Honda plans to unveil the first vehicle built on the 0 Series platform within two years or less, and the new NSX should follow shortly after.
