Ducati just created the most powerful single-cylinder engine in the world.

The Italian motorcycle manufacturing company does not shy away from building beefy engines – but its latest creation is something else.

Called the Superquadro Mono, this brand-new 659 cc short-stroke single-cylinder engine is quite unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Ducati says it is the ‘most high performance’ engine of its type

Unveiling the new engine, Ducati branded it the ‘most high-performance road-going single-cylinder engine ever’.

Impressed? You should be – because this record-breaking engine can hit 77.5 horsepower at 9,750 rpm with a standard exhaust.

And with the addition of a racing exhaust is able to crank out a whopping 84.5 hp.

Ducati says its 10,250 rpm is the highest-revving single-cylinder engine currently in production.

The new engine is derived from the larger twin-cylinder 1299cc Panigale and shares some key elements, including the piston, the design of the combustion chamber, as well as the desmodromic system and its large valves.

The ‘game changer of single-cylinder engines’

“The game-changer of single-cylinder engines, the Superquadro Mono is about to become the beating heart of a new Ducati: a new motorcycle, an unprecedented mix of fun and performance, designed to raise the bar of your emotions on the track and on the road,” the company said.

It went on to share that the new engine will be used in its Hypermotard 698 Mono bike.

“Climb aboard and let fun take charge.

“The new Hypermotard 698 Mono is the first single-cylinder road-going Supermotard by Ducati, born with just one aim – to transmit excitement, dominating the scene. Simple, lightweight, and agile, it is a true ‘fun-bike’ with racing DNA,” the company announced.

And if the idea of a ‘fun-bike’ sounds appealing to you – then check out this incredible flying motorcycle that could be hitting the skies near you as soon as 2028.

Formerly known as the Jetpack Aviation Speeder, this jet bike is moving ahead in development with a new name — the Razor.

The flying motorcycle uses eight tiny but powerful jet engines to cruise at 60 mph for about 30 minutes. And we really, really want a go.
