Elon Musk is heavily banking on Optimus, the humanoid robot Tesla has produced since 2022.
According to the CEO, AI and robots are the next big thing, and whoever gets it right will ‘win’.
This is why he believes that Optimus has the potential to make Tesla a $25 trillion company.

We should point out that Elon Musk has been saying this for a long time.
He firmly believes Tesla should be regarded as a robotics company, not a car brand.
During an earnings call earlier this year, as reported by Fortune, Musk told shareholders to stop buying Tesla stock if they think the company ‘can’t solve autonomy’.
This is why Musk believes cars will only get Tesla so far but at some point, Optimus will drive the company forward and multiply the value of the company by 10, 20, or 30.
Musk’s vision for Tesla
At the 2024 annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas, Musk said Optimus would help Tesla ‘start a new chapter’.
The humanoid robot will be at the center of Tesla Master Plan 4, which will see the automaker transition away from ‘drivable’ cars to focus more on autonomy and robotics.
Tesla is currently valued at around $560 billion, which means it is the world’s most valuable car company, by far.
The second company on the list, Toyota, is far behind, valued at ‘just’ $390+ billion.
This is in line with what Musk affirms because Tesla does appear to be considered a tech company, in addition to a car manufacturer.
Who, or what, is Optimus?
Optimus was first announced in 2021, with the prototype unveiled in 2022.
Gen 2, i.e. the second generation, was launched in December 2023, featuring a slimmer figure with improved hands and movements.
Tesla has already showcased what it can do, sharing various videos of the robot handling eggs, walking around the company and even helping with some simple tasks at the Tesla factory.
Tesla aims to use up to 1,000 robots at its facilities, and Musk claims the robot will enter ‘limited production’ next year.
