Spending the Night Onboard an Abandoned Shipwreck

Move over Flying Dutchman, this group of researchers discovered a mysterious abandoned ghost ship in the most mysterious place in the world, the Bermuda Triangle.

The boat raised suspicions as it was deathly silent and the sails were down.

A boat like this is not a regular occurrence 800 miles from land, so it was a red flag.

Although they were initially hesitant to approach the ship, worried what they might find, they went ahead anyway.

Abandon ship!

When sailor Matt Rutherford and his ‘Ocean Research Team’ came across the silent and abandoned ship in the middle of the ocean near the Bermuda Triangle, it caused a bit of panic.

It was floating on the water’s surface with its sails down, a strange occurrence.

The boat, named the ‘Wolfhound’, looked like it’s inhabitants had left in a rush with drawers thrown open and belongings strewn around the ship

Rutherford approached the boat with trepidation worried about what they might stumble upon.

And while it was eerily abandoned, it was safe.

The story of the Ghost Ship

The team identified the boat as Swan 48 ‘Wolfhound’ and once it had been identified, the boat’s backstory became clear.

They decided to try and tow the boat back with them even though it was longer and heavier than their ship.

They managed to get it 50 miles when they had to cut it free because they were using up too much fuel.

After the video was posted, some eagle-eyed fans managed to work out that the boat used to belong to Royal Irish Yacht Club’s late Alan McGettigan.

It was unclear how but it seems the Wolfhound was damaged somehow and the team had to abandon ship when they were rescued by a Greek Freighter, the reason why it was left in a messy stasis.

Unfortunately, because they had to cut the Wolfhound free, she’s still out there haunting the Seven Seas.
