Satisfyingly ASMR moment ‘rarest’ Mercedes gets first wash after being in a basement for 60 years

A stunning 1955 Mercedes Benz 190 SL was given its first wash in six decades after it was abandoned in a basement in Ohio. 

Describing it as the ‘rarest’ car the team has ever worked on, the team from WD Detailing shared the layers of dirt, dust, and grime that had built up on the Mercedes in the last 60 years. 

For those unfamiliar with the WD Detailing YouTube channel, it basically involves the team traveling across America cleaning and detailing the filthiest of cars – think barn finds and long-forgotten vehicles.

The Mercedes had been neglected for 60 years

If you’re wondering how the latter can happen, then allow me to introduce you to the man who bought himself a ‘55 Mercedes 190SL back in the 1960s with plans to give it a revamp. 

However, life got in the way and before he knew it, we were in the 2020s and the car was still sitting in his basement garage literally gathering dust – and plenty of it. 

A local car collector named Elliot got to learn of the car’s existence and was keen to make a purchase – but wasn’t exactly over the moon about the condition of the car after it spent so long tucked away in a garage.  

Step up, WD Detailing who paid the car a visit with their jet wash, cleaning products, and an abundance of elbow grease. 

Speaking to the Epoch Times, Brent Didesare, from WD Detailing, said: “It was extremely dirty, covered with a very thick layer of dirt and dust. 

“We couldn’t even tell the color of the paint.”

How did the clean-up go?

In a video shared on their YouTube channel, the team can be seen getting to work on the classic car – washing and scrubbing away until it begins to regain some of its former glory. 

The inside was also given a spruce up – removing decades of built-up debris with the help of a vacuum cleaner. 

Who knew a bit of cleaning could be so satisfying?

Once the filth was removed, the Mercedes – which turned out to be pearl-colored – was actually in pretty good shape.

Giving an update on what happened to the car, Didesare said: “Now it’s back at Elliott’s warehouse, and he’s making plans on what he wants to do with it next.

“You can’t skimp out on anything, because if you do, it can be a disaster.

“He’s trying to figure out what exactly he wants to do before he actually goes ahead and restores it.”
