Elon Musk recently revealed some pretty exciting details about the upcoming Tesla Roadster.
The long-awaited spiritual successor to the first car Tesla ever built doesn’t have a release date yet.
But we now know more than we knew a few months ago.

Tesla is currently going through a phase of ups and downs.
Last year was a good one for Tesla, with the Cybertruck launch and the Model Y becoming the world’s best-selling car – as Musk predicted – but 2024 to date has been a bit more problematic amid lower-than-expected sales and underperforming stock.
But that really doesn’t bother Musk, who’s still incredibly rich, and still greatly excited about the company’s next big thing – the new Roadster.
In a recent interview with political commentator Don Lemon on X, Musk talked about the long-awaited Tesla Roadster 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Musk said Tesla wants to outdo itself when it comes to the next Roadster, turning it into a bigger launch than the Cybertruck.
That’s a tall order, and that’s why Musk said he’s got some aces up his sleeve.
“I don’t want to give away [too much, but] the Roadster will be a collaboration between SpaceX and Tesla,” Musk revealed.
At that point, Lemon asked whether the Roadster could be sold as a flying car, to which Musk simply replied ‘maybe’.
“It’s going to have some rocket technology in it. [We will] create something that’s not really a car,” Musk said.
“It will do 0-60 in under 1 second, and it [will have] a drive-by-wire yoke, the way modern jets are controlled.”
First unveiled in 2017, this is the successor to the original first-gen Roadster, which is the first Tesla-branded car ever launched.
It’ll share the same name, and it’ll be a roadster, but that’s where the similarities end.
The first Roadster (below) was just a Lotus Elise with a battery pack, and it was just as rustic and raw as an Elise, too.
Meanwhile, the new Roadster will be built from scratch by Tesla and will feature a glass roof instead of a canvas one.
Musk says it should be here by 2025.
Then again, the Cybertruck was eventually launched in November 2023 after being announced four years prior, so the actual date may be subject to change with the Tesla Roadster as well.
We’ll have to wait and see.
