American motorists have got some serious questions after seeing a basic Nissan truck from the 1980s.
While it’s safe to say that vehicles have come a long way since the ‘80s – some folks aren’t convinced we’re heading in the right direction.
It turns out that when it comes to trucks, there are plenty of people who favor simplicity over sophistication.
Trucks like the 1984 Nissan 720 pickup, for example.

The Nissan 720 pickup was a very basic model
Trucks have a huge market in the US – so much so that the Ford F-150 is the most popular car in the country.
And, you’d need to be living under a rock to have missed the growing popularity of the Tesla Cybertruck.
But it seems that some drivers would prefer to hark back to a simpler time, a time when trucks came with no bells and whistles, or – in the case of this Nissan – no passenger side mirror, no radio, and no air conditioning.
It doesn’t even have a back bumper.
Alongside that, the no-frills Nissan – which was the first Nissan vehicle to be produced in the US – comes with a fake wood interior, wind-down windows, and a driver’s side mirror that has to be attached manually.
However, it also came with a super-affordable price tag of just $3,000 – around $9,700 in today’s money.
Pretty incredible, right? Especially considering even the lowest-priced 2025 Ford Maverick will set you back $29,000, while a much flashier Cybertruck costs $81,895.
Plenty of people wanted to get their hands on one
A clip of the Nissan was shared on TikTok by the Boulder-based TFL Studio and it appears there’s still a real hunger for such a basic truck.
“Why can’t they give us this?” one commenter asked. “Simple, inexpensive trucks.”
And he wasn’t the only one who wanted to get their hands on one.
“Yep, one that doesn’t force you to remortgage the house to buy one,” a second person said.

“Wish they would make basic cheap trucks again,” said a third.
Another person chipped in to brand it an ‘absolute beauty’ of a truck.
Sometimes less really is more – especially when it comes to the price tag.
