Ares has made one huge change to its C8 Corvette-based S1 supercar

Remember the Ares S1 supercar that was based on the chassis of the C8 Corvette?
Well, the Modena-based coachbuilder has announced it’s added a set of new doors to the hard-topped version of its proper supercar.
Hardly sounds like breaking news, but a quick glance at the image above tells you these aren’t just any doors… they’re gullwing doors.

If the truth be told, we get excited about any use of top-hinged ingress points.
The Ares S1 supercar will also be available as a windscreened speedster.
However, we simply can’t get enough of the hardtop, which pays tribute to Le Mans racers of the 1960s and ‘70s.
Underneath the skin of the S1 is a mid-engined C8 Corvette, so it’s got a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8.
That lump sends 600 bhp and 471 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an eight-speed DCT gearbox.
Although the Modena-based coachbuilder’s been hard at work tweaking the original 2020 design, its bodywork’s still all handmade from carbon fiber.
Apparently, the S1 weighs 1,380 kg (around 300 kg less than the Corvette) and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.0 seconds, going on to reach a top speed of 296 km/h (184 mph).
As well as a set of guillwing doors, the interior of the Ares S1 supercar has been given a major revamp.
It features a mix of leather, carbon fiber, and Alcantara, as well as a large portrait-oriented screen in the center stack, controlling a bespoke infotainment system.
Behind the steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster for important driving information, and the passenger also has a screen displaying some vehicle info as well as media.

Ares hasn’t yet said when deliveries will start, but we do know that numbers are limited.
The Italian brand previously said the coupe and speedster will each have a production run of just 24 units.
At the S1 supercar’s launch in 2020, Ares announced a starting price of $536,000, although it isn’t clear if the company has updated pricing since then.
