You can now use your BMW as a video gaming console

BMW is turning the center section of its infotainment system into a video gaming console.

So how does the in-car gaming feature work exactly?

Simple enough, all you have to do is bluetooth your phone to the car and use it as a video game controller.

The in-car gaming feature will be available from next year in select BMW models.

Specifically, only the BMW models that are equipped with the latest version of the brand’s signature Curved Display.

The company officially calls it the ‘AirConsole’ and it’s designed to support a variety of third-party games, including kart racing games and action games.

The bad news is you won’t be able to play big and complex games like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty or Gran Turismo.

Obviously, the new BMW in-car gaming feature will be disabled whenever the car is moving.

Having said that, many will still probably criticize this new feature because it represents yet another distraction for the driver.

And it’s easy to see the point.

Technology is playing a huge part in the car world these days.

It started with small analog-digital displays, then we moved on to larger digital displays and now you’ve got cars with giant touchscreens.

The infotainment system in the first-gen Tesla Model S, for example, literally consists of two Apple iPads ‘glued’ together.

Like some of its rivals, BMW has decided that the best way to go about it is to create a digital screen that covers the entire dashboard.

The massive screen actually consists of two individual screens.

There’s one in front of the driver to relay important information about speed, fuel and so on.

And then there’s another one in the middle for the infotainment and the sat nav.
