Activision has announced that it will be bringing Call of Duty Warzone to mobile devices for the first time.
In a blog post the company said it was “creating an all-new, AAA mobile experience that will bring the thrilling, fluid and large-scale action of Call of Duty®: Warzone™ to players on the go”.
Warzone is an incredibly popular spinoff from the mainline Call of Duty series that has been played by over 100 million people since it launched in 2020. The game features battle royale modes for up to 150 players and is free to play across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
Given this success, it makes sense that Activision is expanding to mobile devices to compete with the likes of Fortnite and PUBG mobile.
The mobile gaming market continues to grow and can be extremely lucrative for game developers.
Since Call of Duty: Mobile was released in 2019, players have reportedly spent an astonishing $1.5 billion on in-game purchases.
This new game is said to be “built natively for mobile with cutting-edge technology”.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed if players will be able to compete against those on consoles or only other mobile users.
We still don’t have a release date for Call of Duty Warzone on mobile devices, but the launch is likely still a while away given that Activision is actively hiring for the project.
