Tesla chief designer gives first look inside new Cybercab and shows its secrets

We can finally take a peek inside the new self-driving Tesla Cybercab, and it’s unlike any other car.

Although it may look like a normal car at first, it doesn’t have a rear window, pedals, or steering wheel.

It stands true to its vision of being a fully autonomous drive.

Let’s take a look at Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, giving us a sneak peek of the upcoming car.

First look inside the new self-driving Tesla Cybercab

Franz presented the first official look inside the Tesla Cybercab, in a video posted to the Petersen Automotive Museum YouTube channel.

According to the video, a Cybercab model will be on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum until early January 2025.

The model on display is one of the 20 fully functional, pre-production robotaxis unveiled at Tesla’s “We, Robot” event.

“It’s a really exciting vehicle for us, this is something that is going to radically change transportation as we know it,” said Franz.

“The Cybercab is a fully autonomous vehicle, you can own the car, you can purchase the car, you can lease the car for the amount of time that you want,” he added.

Elon Musk has also revealed the estimated cost of the new self-driving Tesla Cybercab is below $30,000.

So it is cheaper than the Model Y, which starts at around $44,630.

Franz also explained the lack of a rear window.

“There’s obviously no rear window. In an autonomous car when you’re really focused on getting from A to B, you’re not doing the driving so it doesn’t matter so much about what’s behind you. But it allows us to actually have incredibly big storage in a small car.”

Considering the Cybercab only seats two people, it’s a given that the storage space will be that big.

“We chose the color gold and it’s really a special color, it really reflects kind of a future version of the idea of a New York City Yellow Cab,” he added.

In the middle, there’s also a large screen for passengers to watch a movie or video chat.
