Man gets so increasingly frustrated charging electric cars that he’s had enough and decides to return to combustion power

  • This Irish man has had enough of electric vehicles
  • The infrastructure is clearly not up to scratch

When it comes to owning an EV, the biggest fear is its charging accessibility, and one man has affirmed the fear by switching back to combustion engine cars for this very reason.

Aside from certain states in America, the accessibility of EV charging systems is still leaving much to be desired.

That’s especially true for the UK and Ireland, with a limited number of public charging being available, despite government promises to end petrol car production by 2030.

One man who had made the switch to an EV has now gone past the end of his tether with the charging issues and has decided to switch back to combustion engines.

EV owner left frustrated at charging accessibilty

Most EV drivers have hailed just how much you can save by plugging in at home. But for those who are on the road constantly, public chargers are sparse.

YouTube personality Stavros969 has had enough. After owning a Honda E, the man revealed that its sub-par range had forced him into a change, and after test-driving a Tesla Model 3, he’s snubbed electric cars altogether.

In an installment on his channel, the Irish man – reminiscent of John Bishop in looks – took a hired Tesla on a drive to show viewers just how hard it can be to charge on the go.

The personality pulled into a service station off the motorway in Ireland and headed to the EV charging ports.

Here he found that there was already a queue and that one station would only allow for one type of charging, which his car did not support.

Switching back to combustion

With gas cars so easily maintained, and the charging crisis in Ireland and UK appearing to be bleak, Stavros has revealed that he will not be buying an EV again until there is much more support.

Speaking about the Model 3, he said: “Would I buy one of these? Well, I wouldn’t, of course.”

“I am gone from fully-electric [cars] because I’ve gone back to combustion. I’ve gone hybrid – it’s not a plug-in hybrid, maybe in the future I’ll get a plug-in, but I’ve gone back to combustion. No plugging in, no charging, no nothing.”

Then there’s also the charging time – where a petrol stop can last a matter of seconds, topping up an EV can take up to an hour.

That is unless you have the Chinese Zeekr 7X port which is just as quick as filling a tank.

“Let me just tell you one thing if you are getting an electric car, best of luck and enjoy the headaches,” Stavros continued.

“They’re okay but yeah the charging will wreck your head.”

The UK and Ireland have had a stringent relationship with EVs, particularly Tesla, where the infrastructure is still lacking without many superchargers.
