TV host and comic personality Jay Leno has an extensive love of cars, but Ferrari is one brand he won’t touch.

Yet Leno’s aversion to the Italian car company doesn’t stem from the vehicles itself or from a hatred of a Ferrari model, but instead another reason all together.

The 74-year-old has explained in a recent podcast episode appearance why he doesn’t drive anything from the Italian brand, and why he doesn’t see himself adding it to his car collection.

Ferrari no-go

Jay Leno’s decision not to add to his love of cars with a Ferrari model has been well documented, yet his reasons behind it were explained during an interview three years ago.

He’s spoken proudly of his love for cars like Lamborghini and Maclaren, but now he’s explained why he’s not keen on the Italian car manufacturer.

Speaking on the YouTube podcast ‘Cars and Culture’ in 2021, he revealed it is a people problem, not a car one with Ferrari. He explained that it’s the dealership and service that puts him off it instead of the vehicle itself.

He continued: “They’re excellent cars (Ferrari). It’s not an indictment of the car, it’s just that I don’t want… you know, you’re spending a tremendous amount of money, you should be made to feel like a customer.

Jay Leno’s car collection

Whilst he’s known for his TV appearances first and foremost, Jay Leno’s love of cars has earned him a strong fan following.

He owns a huge fleet of 281 cars, including a McLaren P1 and Dodge Viper, that would have most of us green with envy. Yet he also revealed that one automobile is a particular favorite – he claims his Tata Nano is the best of his collection.

He told CNN: “It’s no different than all those electric cars, you see running around and it’s $2,700…it’s amazing.

“I like this car for what it represents to India.

“To me, India is turning up with more engineers and scientists than anyone else. In the old days, technology was expensive and labor was cheap. Now, it flipped.

“Now technology is cheap and labor is expensive.”

It’s thought he added the Tata Nano to his collection in May of 2012. The model is now out of production after it was stopped in manufacturing in 2019 before the last Tata Nano was delivered in 2020.

He added: “To me, it’s not necessarily about the car. It is what the car represents.”
