Man dubbed ‘Speedycop’ creates street-legal car from abandoned plane

Have you ever seen a police officer driving a plane on the roads?

For residents of one US town, it’s a regular occurrence.

Jeff Bloch, aka Speedycop, is a policeman by day and an amateur mechanic by night.

He converted an old plane into a car for a race, and, after making it road-worthy, now cruises around in it.

Jeff Bloch and his group of like-minded tinkerers are known as Speedycop & the Gang of Outlaws.

They worked together to build an airplane car for the 24 Hours of LeMons race.

This race is similar to the Red Bull Soapbox Race that Supercar Blondie herself participated in in that there are often weird and humorous cars that take part.

The difference is that LeMons is an endurance race, with each team aiming to get their low-cost racecar to do the most laps in 24 hours.

Speedycop found a 1956 Cessna 310 in a junkyard and the gang got to work.

They sliced up a Toyota van to use as the car portion of their Frankencar.

Then they shortened the wings of the plane, gutted it, and lowered it onto the Toyota’s chassis.

Six months of work later, it was race time, and the plane dubbed the Spirit of LeMons, came 65th out of 84 entries.

Speedycop didn’t have the heart to retire the plane after the race and started the process of making it road-legal.

After adding headlights, taillights, and license plates, it was ready.

Now he gets a great thrill from casually cruising around town in his silver plane car.

This isn’t even his weirdest build; Speedycop has also made the Upside Down Camaro, which looks exactly how you’d imagine it to look.

He also turned an AMC Pacer into a giant fishbowl and made a Volkswagen bus that drives on its side.

Of course, he’s not the only person who’s converted an aircraft into a car.

One man is currently transforming Elvis’ old private jet into an RV and even gave Speedycop himself a tour of it.
