If this is what the future holds for Nissan, we’re all for it.

The Japanese automaker has just unveiled the first of a series of electric concept vehicles.

Dubbed the Nissan Hyper Urban, the SUV concept will officially make its debut at the Japan Mobility Show next month.

But in the meantime, we’ve been treated to some teaser images previewing the design and technological capabilities of Nissan’s future electric offerings.

Starting with the exterior, it’s a dramatic departure from the current Nissan Ariya electric SUV.

The design is dominated by angular lines and surfaces, with the front end featuring a full-width LED light and sharp fascia.

The front end also features a gloss black bumper which contrasts the SUV’s yellow/lime paint.

Apparently, the paint “changes chromatic expressions depending on the angle that light hits it,” which basically means it flips color.

The side profile reveals that the Nissan Hyper Urban is a four-door with butterfly doors up front and suicide-butterfly doors at the rear.

We know what you’re thinking – how impractical – but remember this is just a concept.

Much like the front end, the rear of the SUV concept is dominated by a LED light bar and an angular fascia.

Nissan has only released a single image of the cabin, which shows the rear, but it’s just as striking as the exterior.

The interior appears to come equipped with lounge seats, ottomans and a central screen for rear-seat passengers.

The crazy thing is, those ottomans actually form part of the front seats, collapsing and folding up to serve as the front seats’ back rests.

As for what’s under the hood, Nissan hasn’t yet revealed this information, but it has revealed it features a V2H and V2G capability.

Apparently, it’s also been designed to accommodate hardware updates and regular software updates.

For example, the cabin of the Nissan Hyper Urban could be updated with a new digital instrument panel to reflect “the latest technologies and trends in graphic user interfaces”.
