A woman who owns two Teslas shared the monthly cost of running an EV with a home charging station.
On average, she spends $130 per month on electricity, and she and her husband travel around 80-100 miles daily.
That does sound like a great deal, but there are two things worth pointing out.
Namely, the woman admits she also has solar panels on the roof, and having the whole thing installed wasn’t cheap.

How much does running two Teslas with a home charging station costs
Ruby Acevedo, a content creator and real estate investor, took to TikTok to break down the cost of running two Teslas at home.
Ruby posted two videos on the subject, talking about the monthly cost and also how much she had to fork out to have the whole setup installed.
She said they drive their Teslas about 80-100 miles every day.
She didn’t actually specify whether that’s per car or in total, but 80 to 100 miles is kind of a lot, so we’re going to assume both she and her husband have daily commutes of around 40-50 miles each for the sake of argument.
She says they charge both cars every night, regardless of how much they’ve used them, but only between 8:00PM and 9:00AM.
She also caveats this by adding a rather important bit of information, and that is the fact they use solar panels as well.
“[We charge during] off-peak hours, and we have solar panels in our house, and we installed two chargers, so there is a lot of electricity used per night,” she said.
Something else worth pointing out is that she claims they pretty much only use home charging, and they never use public chargers.
Still, $130-$150 per month is not bad at all, even when you factor in the total cost of setting up the charging station, which she says was about $1,500 for the whole thing.
How much does running an EV actually cost?
Electric cars have been around for a while, but it’s clear that determining the cost of running one is somehow still not as clear-cut and easy as it is for a gas car.
A while back, a Cybertruck owner surprised everyone when he shared the cost of running his truck.
On that occasion, people were somewhat shocked to find out it was actually not as cheap as you might expect.
By contrast, another Cybertruck owner ran a similar experiment, with a completely opposite result.
