Volkswagen just took its forthcoming ID.7 sedan and cranked it up a notch.

It’s called the VW ID.X Performance concept and it’s been given a host of sporty upgrades.

Basically, it’s what the tame-looking ID.7 should’ve been.

As standard, the ID.7 has a 282-horsepower electric motor which powers the rear wheels.

The VW ID.X Performance concept, on the other hand, has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, with front and rear electric motors pumping out a whopping 551 hp.

Now you’re talkin’.

The upgrades don’t stop there, though, as the EV concept’s also got a locking differential for the rear.

The suspension’s been lowered by 2.3 inches, and it sits on a cool-looking set of 10-spoke bronze wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber, too.

As well as a more powerful drivetrain and a modified suspension, the ID.X Performance concept gets all sorts of visual add-ons.

It’s been dressed in a body kit including a front splitter and a rear diffuser.

You can fail to notice that a giant rear wear has been mounted on the rear decklid, and the tailights have been darkened, too.

Visual upgrades aren’t limited to the exterior, though, as on the inside there’s plenty of red accents and a pair of body-hugging front seats.

Mind you, you’ll need a good pair of aggressively bolstered seats when you’re putting all that power down.

“The MEB [platform] offers many fantastic possibilities for approaching vehicle development with a great deal of creativity,” said VW’s MEB platform tech boss Andreas Reckewerth.

“It was clear to us that we wanted to base our new show car on the ID.7 and that we would focus on enhancing the performance. In this way we can show what is possible.”

It doesn’t sound like this exact car will go on sale, but could there be an ID.7 Performance car on the horizon?
