Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner executes flawless vertical takeoff

This Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner pilot executed a flawless vertical takeoff that looked like something straight out of Grand Theft Auto.

As if that wasn’t cool enough, some steep turns were thrown in for good measure.

This impressive maneuver was made at the 2015 Paris Air Show.

Watching the video, it’s almost hard to believe this is a real plane, not an AI simulation.

This Boeing Dreamliner defies the laws of gravity

The plane in question belongs to Vietnam Airlines, the country’s state owned enterprise.

In the video, which has gained more than 18 million views, the plane expertly takes off from the runway.

It almost looks as if the aircraft lifts off its own accord, with no need for a long build to get into the air.

When up above the ground, it deftly steers and cuts through the sky smoothly.

It’s a remarkably impressive demonstration – though I bet it’d be even more incredible to bear witness to from inside.

This isn’t the first time that a plane has impressed onlookers at the Paris Air Show – look at this Airbus A380 that looked as if it would fall out of the sky.

The internet reacts to the improbable takeoff

Aviation fans were enthralled by the show and took to the comments to express their admiration.

One wrote: “Must have seen this about hundred times and still can’t get enough. The music is absolutely perfect.”

Another commented: “Imagine being that pilot though. Being able to push that aircraft to its limits and just soar around wherever you want. Most pilots who fly this plane will only ever take it in a straight line.”

“Is this GTA?,” a fellow viewer asked.

The reference to Grand Theft Auto might be confusing at first, as most will associate the iconic game series with cars.

That, and running people over, but we digress.

But there is also an option to fly planes within the games, which does lead to some physics defying activities.

However, none of Boeing’s planes have made an appearance in the Rockstar Games series yet.

But with the sixth entry set to be released late in 2025, there’s still time – but we wouldn’t bet on it.
