This content creator and his friends are converting a McLaren 650S into a $518,000 675LT with parts they sourced from Temu – and documenting the process through a series on YouTube.

While things seemed to be going surprisingly well, they took a massive risk with the purchase of something expensive to use in the car modification process.

The car was sent to a body shop, completely taken apart and rebuilt and missing parts were replaced by the team.

They found the car ownership history report and were shocked by previous ownership and found possible worrying tampering.

Can you buy a McLaren 650S on Temu?

YouTuber Chris Slix and his team are rebuilding a McLaren 650S into a $518,000 675LT using parts they’ve exclusively sourced on Temu, a cheap drop-shipping website.

It’s not unheard of to use a pre-existing supercar base to make a new one, this is called a car replica, and people even attend car replica festivals and shows.

The team received their order of a cheap 675LT body kit from Temu instead of going directly to McLaren for original parts, much to their relief the front end fit well, but unfortunately the rear required extra work.

Before they did potentially what is known as the biggest step: fitting the engine, the team sent the car away to a body shop for painting.

They decided on a candy orange color, interestingly this isn’t an original McLaren color but it’s clear Chris wanted his interesting supercar to stand out.

After the car got back from the body shop, it was looking really good, but the team immediately stripped it down to get it ready for assembly.

Their risky purchase

The team found a report detailing the original car’s ownership report – it had a lot of owners in the past who had caused it a lot of damage.

The team suspected that the mileage had been tampered with because it was weirdly low in comparison to the amount of owners it had in the past.

The team took a risk by buying expensive 675LT headlights from McLaren and they waited with baited breath to see if they’d wasted their money.

Much to their joy, the headlights worked successfully and they’d dodged a financial bullet.

Chris and his team are continuing to work on their 675LT and are absolutely over the moon with their DIY progress so far.

Well done, guys!
