The Rolls-Royce Phantom has long been the gold standard of luxury cars.
But how does a 2020 model compare to an older and cheaper version from 2004?
There has been a vast difference in time, which means the standard of luxury has certainly changed over the years. But how much difference we are talking about?
A recent video by Throttle House gave us a fascinating comparison, showing the differences between the ultimate in modern luxury and a budget-friendly entry into the Rolls-Royce world.

2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom compared to the 2020 model
The 2020 Phantom has some of the most opulent and advanced features like noise-reducing tires and coach doors that close with the press of a button.
It even features unique touches like 22-inch wheels with center caps that stay upright.
On the other hand, the 2004 Phantom, which costs between $60,000 and $80,000, offers a luxury design and remarkable comfort for its age, proving that Rolls-Royce’s luxury is never outdated.
Similar to the newer model, the older version also features 22-inch wheels with center caps, but the difference is that they do not stay upright while the car moves.
Then comes the Spirit of Ecstasy emblem, which remains the iconic recognition for both models.
After all, it takes a mind-blowing amount of time to design them.
While the 2020 Phantom had a Scarlet Scala bonnet priced at $7,500 and a starry night ceiling, the older model lacked that.
However, it still impressed us with its simpler yet elegant design.
Both cars stand as supreme luxury
Rolls-Royce Phantom 2004 offered plush footrests, suede storage compartments, and smooth massaging seats, making it feel every bit as luxurious as the newer model.
Driving the 2004 Phantom was surprisingly smooth, similar to the 2020 model – thanks to its 6.75-liter V12 engine delivering 453 horsepower.
However, it lacked modern conveniences like ventilated seats and an updated infotainment system, which felt outdated by today’s standards.
Although there’s a big difference in luxury, the older Rolls-Royce still sets a high bar for today’s modern luxury cars.
