This incredible electric walking bike is basically a treadmill on wheels – and it’s a pretty cool way to increase your step count.

The Lopfit is the brainchild of Dutch inventor, Bruin Bergmeester, who came up with the idea after noticing that he was struggling to maintain a healthy weight and wanted an alternative to driving for his daily commute to work. Smart.

The innovative vehicle runs off a 960 Wh battery, which lasts around four hours – or between 50 to 70 km (31-44 miles) – per charge. Its 250w engine can hit a top speed of 25 km/h (16 mph) – so it’s a lot faster than walking – and its five gears mean you can set it to a speed you’re comfortable with.

The vehicle is pretty easy to use – just hop on, get walking and you’re off. It has sensors in the handles which can stop the treadmill at any point, and to turn you simply turn into the corner.

Lopfit says its unusual bike offers a ‘unique and a wonderful experience’ and allows you to benefit from a ‘relaxing stroll’ while feeling the wind in your hair. And, unlike a lot of bikes, you won’t have to endure saddle pain, because… well, there’s no saddle – check out this Henry Hoover converted into a motorbike, too.
