This 1955 double-decker Greyhound Scenicruiser could be one of the last surviving examples out there – and it’s up for sale.

Launched by General Motors back in 1954, the Greyhouse Scenicruiser became a popular and somewhat iconic mode of transport during the 1950s and 1960s.

In total, 1,001 Greyhound Scenicruisers were produced between 1954 and 1956, with the buses in use until the mid-1970s.

Now, 70 years on from the launch one of these renowned double-deckers has gone up for sale.

The vintage Greyhound Scenicruiser is in good condition

We’ve seen our fair share of cool and unusual double-deckers, such as this one that’s been converted in a home on a wheels for a family of eight; or the RV-turned-glamping-pod that used to belong to Simon Cowell.

But when it comes to automotive history, it’s hard to look past this original Greyhound Scenicruiser 316, which has been put for sale on Craigslist.

The seller says the bus, which looks to be in pretty decent condition, has had ‘many new and updated features’ as well as a ‘completed maintenance’ since he took ownership.

He’s even shared some clip of the restoration and maintenance work he’s already carried out on YouTube – if you fancy checking it out.

However, he’s now looking for someone to ‘adopt’ the bus and is hoping to find a buyer who is in the transportation business and is able to work on such a large vehicle.

It could make a very cool restoration project

The Greyhound Scenicruiser was powered by dual 4.7 liter inline-four GM diesel engines, which were later replaced by a 9.3 liter V8 from Detroit Diesel – the bus on sale here has the V8 paired with a manual transmission.

Due to the age of the buses, and the relatively few produced in the first place, you don’t see many examples out and about there these days.

So this sale could make a very interesting and worthwhile project for the right buyer.

The seller has listed the price at a ‘firm’ $50,000 and – as we said – he’d ideally sell to someone in the transport industry and ideally with the sort of shop set up to handle such a vehicle.

If that sounds like you, then you can check out the listing in full here.
