This real-world Batmobile just sold for $270,000 on SBX Cars

This real-world Batmobile, based on a Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG, just sold for $270,000 on SBX Cars.

Known as AVG Batmobile, it’s a 600-horsepower beast, and it looks absolutely fantastic.

The best part is the previous owner actually used it, since it came with 150,000km (93,206 miles) on the clock.

We’re sure that most of those miles may have been put under its tire before the Batmobile transformation, but it’s still impressive.

How this Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG became a real-world Batmobile

The Batmobile was built by AVG pretty much by hand.

The company used a Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG, modified by Kleemann, as a starting point.

Most of the components that make it a Batmobile were 3D printed using composite materials, including some elements of the chassis and the powertrain.

From the outside, it would be pretty much impossible to tell what sort of car was used to make this.

The engine was modified, too.

It still uses the same 5.4-liter supercharged V8 as the ‘standard’ CL 55, but it now delivers 600 horsepower (the factory model comes with 500), which are sent to rear wheels courtesy of a 5-speed automatic transmission.

While the exterior looks Batmobile-esque, the interior, by contrast, looks surprisingly classic, apart from the Momo steering wheel.

What sets the Batmobile sold on SBX Cars apart from similar vehicles

It’s great to see a rare, unusual or exotic car – this one is probably all three – actually being driven, rather than parked in an air-conditioned garage.

Even though the vast majority of the 93,000 miles this car has done probably comes from its use as a ‘normal’ Mercedes, it still feels nice to see an odometer with more than three or four digits on a car like this one.

Hopefully, the new owner will add some more miles to the current count.
