In a bid to test the Tesla autopilot and its automatic braking features, one YouTuber went full Wile E. Coyote mode to create a fake road.

Beep beep. Those who spent their childhoods in front of the early cartoons will recognize that cheeky Wile E. Coyote for being a meddlesome fool, always hindering Road Runner.

But he did have some rather genius ploys.

So, could the increasingly clever Telsa bots outsmart Looney Tunes’ oldest trick in the book?

YouTuber creates EV autopilot test

With Tesla cars often being the standard bar for EVs and technology to be measured against, the American company has gone above and beyond to prove how good its self-driving is.

With autopilot and self-braking features, the Tesla fleet, theoretically, is supposed to be quicker than humans at slamming on the breaks, removing the thinking time from the equation.

Especially on long trips where drivers can get tired and the Telsa Cybertruck passed tests of never dropping concentration.

This time, YouTube personality Mark Rober put the EV to the test by creating a string of obstacles to test its auto-braking.

First up was a standard civilian test, where the Tesla eased up to a standstill while a mannequin was standing in the road.

The second experiment was a reaction test. The mannequin was programmed to jump out into the road and see how quickly the Tesla car could pick up a hazard.

Again, it passed with flying colors.

But it wasn’t long before the Tesla was fooled.

When a thick fog was created, the sensors failed to pick up the figure in time and went spinning into the mannequin.

The same happened in a torrential pour of rain where the small object was mostly shrouded. Concerning…

Interestingly, an SUV using Lidar technology passed all tests with ease.

However, Wile E. Coyote has the true test already mapped out from the 1900s.

Can a Tesla outsmart Wile E. Coyote?

The short answer is no.

The YouTuber set up a wall inspired by the classic cartoon, painted to appear as if there was no object in the way when it was actually a crash waiting to happen.

The Lidar-tech SUV went first and pulled up just in time, having detected an object in the way.

However, the Tesla which uses cameras instead of sensors, was bamboozled completely by the Coyote.

It thumped through the wall without slowing down.

The Tesla obliterated the wall and the mannequin behind.

Considering the new Cybercab robot taxi is on the way, it’s certainly quite a scare for Tesla if its technology can be outsmarted by fog, water, and a make-believe cartoon character.
