UK trio converting an ambulance into the ultimate camper van to travel Europe

These guys in the UK are converting a decommissioned ambulance into a DIY camper van, which they’re going to use to travel across Europe.

The idea is sound, for two reasons.

First, decommissioned ambulances are relatively cheap to buy and second, they’re a lot more spacious than we think.

There’s just one thing worth bearing in mind, though.

The main reason why turning an ambulance into a camper van is an interesting idea

The trio from The Professional Idiots (yep, really) YouTube channel came up with a bold idea and decided to convert a retired UK ambulance into a camper van.

Retired ambulances are relatively cheap to buy, usually because the alternative is they simply end up being scrapped, and there’s a lot of room inside.

For obvious reasons, ambulances are fitted with a million different things needed for the patients, which means, once you get rid of everything, you’ve got plenty of space left.

There are two things to remember, though.

First, you need to be careful while removing stuff because there are a lot of sensitive components you can’t simply get rid off using a hammer and brute force.

The second thing is, even more important, is you’d probably need a good pair of gloves throughout the entire process.

This is because you’ll find all kinds of chemicals on every surface in an old ambulance.

It might be a good idea to have it sterilized, too.

They’re just getting started, and so it’s probably going to take a few more weeks (and videos) before the van is ready, so stay tuned for that.

DIY camper vans can be awesome

With enough time, possibly money and definitely ingenuity, nearly anything can be turned into a DIY camper van.

We’ve seen people do it with long-haul trucks, planes and school buses.

Then there’s what is possibly the most famous DIY RV in the world, which was created using Elvis Presley’s jet as a platform.

A YouTuber bought an old jet that used to belong to Elvis a while back, immediately realized it would’ve been impossible to make it airworthy again and simply decided to turn it into an RV.

Amazingly, he got it done.

And, even more amazingly, he got done in record time.
