5 things you probably missed in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Glass Onion on Netflix, feature image

Famed detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) and his ‘southern drawl’ accent are back in Glass Onion, which is currently available on Netflix.

In Glass Onion, tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites his friends to his private island in Greece for a ‘murder mystery’ game.

However, when someone winds up dead, Blanc puts himself on the case.

It’s a great movie to watch, but here are five little things you may have missed (SPOILER ALERT!).

5. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s cameo

Fun fact: Knives Out director Rian Johnson always includes a Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameo in his films.

Glass Onion is no exception.

Mind you, Gordon-Levitt’s cameo in Glass Onion is sneaky.

Were you able to spot it?

Actually, let’s rephrase that: were you able to hear it?

Gordon-Levitt (Looper, Inception) voices Mile’s ‘DONG’ clock, the Hourly chime on the island.

4. Beware of the robot-butler-dog

From the beginning, the movie does everything it can to typecast Bron as the stereotypical eccentric billionaire buffoon.

When Blanc asks Bron why he keeps his ‘Baby Blue’ Porsche 918 Spyder on the roof, Bron nonchalantly replies:

“[The car] goes everywhere I go. [And it is on the roof] ’cause there’s nowhere to drive it on the island.”

And then of course there’s the robot dog that carries the guests’ luggage.

These robot dogs have been all over the place in 2022.

Just a few weeks ago, San Francisco Police Department announced it was considering using robots equipped with explosives in the future.

3. Derol ‘the slacker’

When his friends arrive on the island, Miles Bron says it takes 50 people to run the ‘Glass Onion’ mansion but he sent everyone home for the weekend.

He also tells his guests to ignore Derol, a grass-smoking, sandal-wearing hippy wandering around the estate.

Does Derol’s face look familiar? Because it should.

Derol is played by Noah Seagan, the only actor from the first Knives Out film (apart from Craig) to appear in the sequel.

In the first movie, he played Trooper Wagner, the police officer who assisted Detective Elliot (LaKeith Stanfield) and Blanc himself in the investigation.

2. Daniel Craig’s Omega

You might have noticed the not-so-subtle attempt to plug Benoit Blanc’s Omega watch.

Daniel Craig – surprise surprise – is a brand ambassador for Omega and this was much easier to address when Craig played Bond.

That’s because, as most people know, James Bond has been wearing Omegas for nearly 30 years.

But Blanc is a whole new character and this explains why the director decided to throw subtletly out of the window on this occasion.

Glass Onion devotes an entire close up shot to Blanc’s Omega which is a limited-edition Seamaster 1948 Small Seconds.

It costs $6,900.

1. Did Apple break its own rule?

Another fun fact: Apple does not let filmmakers show villains using iPhones on camera.

Knives Out director himself confirmed this isn’t just a rumor in a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair.

You can check it out in the video down below (minute 2:50).

This begs the question: what’s with Miles Bron and his iPad?

Miles Bron (SPOILER!) is the villain in the story, having killed his former business partners Andi Brand (Janelle Monáe) and Duke (Dave Bautista).

And yet, when Blanc solves the murder mystery game, Bron hands him an iPad.

So, does that not count because it’s an iPad, or because Bron doesn’t technically use it as he just gives it away?
