Aston Martin DBR22 at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance

Aston Martin’s stunning DBR22 has claimed its first award at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille in France.

Declared Best of Show, it claimed the coveted Concours d’Elegance award at the respected event.

The award comes barely a month after the DBR22 was revealed during Monterey Car Week.

Winning an award like this is something that Aston Martin clearly set out to accomplish when it designed the DBR22.

“What was important to us in the design of DBR22 was to express a future in the here and now,” Aston Martin executive vice president Marek Reichman said.

“The jury have clearly recognised our efforts to evolve the surfaces, proportions and shapes and to break new ground with this car.

“Winning the Chantilly Concours d’Elegance for the first time with our DBR22 design concept is, without doubt, a special honour for Aston Martin.”

What is the Aston Martin DBR22?

A roofless two-seat speedster, the DBR22 was built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Q by Aston Martin – the brand’s bespoke customization division.

Its styling draws inspiration from iconic Aston Martin racecars including the DBR1 and DB3S.

It’s one of two Aston Martin speedsters built to farewell the brand’s 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine which features up front.

The other is the aptly-named V12 Speedster, but the DBR22 is more powerful with 705hp on tap.

Able to get from 0-97km/h (0-60mph) in 3.4 seconds as it charges on to a top speed of 319km/h (198mph), it’s faster than the V12 Speedster as well.

Only a limited – but unspecified – number of examples will be built for select customers.

But how much it costs is something Aston won’t say.
