Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the design inspiration for the Tesla Cybertruck largely comes from the DeLorean DMC-12.
That means the EV pickup’s got hard edges, angles, and – most importantly – a smooth, unpainted stainless steel finish.
But as anyone who’s ever owned a stainless steel refrigerator can vouch, that stuff is incredibly fragile.

Not only does it scratch, it scuffs, leaving you panicking that you’re probably not going to get your security deposit back when your lease is up.
But Tesla, it seems, has a solution: a DIY method of keeping your Cybertruck clean and scratch-free.
According to one Twitter user, who spoke to an employee at Tesla’s shareholder day in Texas, workers are using a simple household item to clean the vehicle.
Apparently, they’ve been using refrigerator cleaner on the Tesla Cybertruck because you can’t use regular car wash soap.
As bogus as it sounds, it makes total sense – and it ties in with something else another Tesla employee said.

Speaking on the “Ride the Lighting” podcast, Tesla design chief Franz Von Holzhausen said the company wants owners to repair their own cosmetic damage.
“In the event that there is a scratch, we do have a process that you could yourself basically buff it and remove the scratch as well and return to the basic finish that’s on the stainless,” Von Holzhausen said.
He said this created an “intentional finish” over the stainless steel that could be “cured or fixed,”” and differs from the stainless steel cleaners for refrigerators”.
Just imagine, after years of waiting, your shiny new Tesla Cybertruck enters production.
It shows up on your doorstep as soon as it rolls off the assembly line, and the glovebox is rammed with stainless steel cleaning wipes from Target.
We’re fairly certain this won’t be the case, but without official information from Tesla, we’ll just have to wait and see.
