Ulysse Nardin just launched a new rabbit-themed watch to celebrate the start of the new year.
The only minor issue is this watch is actually more expensive than most everyday cars.
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac calendar.
And that is the reason behind the intricate handmade design on the dial of the watch.
CHECK THIS OUT!
The dial was handmade by Ulysse Nardin and it features two rabbits looking at the sunset.
The design is amazing and it is nicely executed, too.
The 40 mm rose gold case complete the package.
We can certainly see how this quirky and unique piece might entice collectors.
Then again, watch collectors routinely splash a lot of cash on timepieces that look like a work of art.
And, to be fair, you need a lot of money for this watch because it costs – wait for it – $45,900.
About the Chinese zodiac / lunar calendar
As opposed the ‘traditional’ zodiac with a sign for each month, the Chinese use the lunar calendar that assigns an animal to each year.
It’s a twelve-year cycle and that means that the next Year of the Rabbit after 2023 will be 2035.
There are twelve signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
Several watch manufacturers celebrate the Chinese zodiac with limited-edition pieces, so we can definitely expect more similar watches in the coming months.
High-end watch brands like Chopard, Piaget and Vacheron Constantin do this every year.
Budget watch makers do this, too.
Last year, both Casio and Swatch released Tiger-themed watches.
