Bugatti breaks down the meaning behind its logo and what it symbolizes

What do the Bugatti Chiron, Divo and Veyron all have in common?

The obvious answer would be their unbridled power and massive engines.

But like the classic models that came before them, they all sport the Bugatti logo.

When it comes to Bugatti, a logo is more than just a logo: it’s a multi-faceted emblem that symoblizes everything the brand represents.

But before breaking down the logo, it’s worth noting Bugatti’s compelling history, from its origins to where it stands today.

Back in 1909, Italian-born automotive designer Ettore Bugatti founded Automobiles Ettore Bugatti in Molsheim, a then-German city which is now a commune in France.

But even back then, Bugatti performance vehicles were renowned for their design and their numerous racing victories.

Ettore Bugatti sadly passed away in 1947 and, because his son passed away eight years earlier, there was no heir to the company.

Because of this, Automobiles Ettore Bugatti ceased production of its vehicles for several decades.

Thankfully in the 1990s, an Italian entrepreneur revived the Bugatti brand as a manufacturer of limited production performance cars, like the stunning 1-of-1 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Guêpier.

Fast forward to today, and the Bugatti brand is now owned by the Volkswagen Group.

The hood of each and every high-performance model the brand produces is adorned with the Bugatti logo.

Even when they’re as rare as the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, the most expensive model the brand’s ever sold, they still feature the infamous logo.

The logo’s red background symobolizes the power and passion drivers feel behind the wheel.

It also serves as an eye-catching backdrop for the white ‘BUGATTI’ lettering, the black ‘EB’ emblem, and the red dots seated in the thin white border.

On the subject of the latter, there’s actually 60 red dots that adorn the narrow white outer edge of the Bugatti logo.

Their meaning is speculated, with some believing the dots represent safety wires, which appeared like lace patterns on Bugatti models.

Others believe the dots are pearls, symbolizing that Ettore Bugatti thought of his vehicles as “fine jewels”.

The black ‘EB’ emblem, of course, represents Ettore Bugatti as the founder of the company.

We may not know what the French luxury automaker has up its sleeve next, but one thing’s for certain – it’ll wear the symbolic Bugatti logo.
