The spectacular waterfront property Hollywood icon Betty White shared with her late husband, TV host Allen Ludden, has been put on the market by her estate for US$7.95 million.

Whilst the Hollywood legend spent the last couple of years of her life at her home in Los Angeles’s Brentwood, the main place where she went to relax was the three-storey, 334-square-metre home in Carmel, California, which boasts idyllic views of the beachfront and ocean.

The four-bedroom and 4.5-bathroom home was built by White and Ludden who died in 1981 shortly after the house was completed.

Truzkowski Freedman & Associates of Sotheby’s International Realty is handling the listing.

White and Ludden paid only $170,000 in 1978 for the empty 0.11-hectare plot the house was built on, according to US news outlet ABC7.

As you might expect from a home that’s right by the sea, there are plenty of big windows that keep the entire house full of that glorious California sunlight.

The house features wooden floors and panelling throughout, which adds to the property’s luxury beach-shack vibe.

The Carmel home also features three fireplaces, with one of them set in a white stonewall.

The beautiful and relaxing nature of the property doesn’t stop on the inside either, with a waterfront garden of colourful flowers and well-trimmed hedges.

To help take full advantage of the view, the top storey has a huge balcony where you can sit and take in the sun and sea air on a lazy weekend.

“The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen. It was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home,” listing agent Nicole Truzkowski told People about the home.

“Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favourite things to do. She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends.”

White died on New Year’s Eve last year at the age of 99.
