Breaking down Bugatti Chiron's 8-figure price tag and why maintenance is so expensive

Alongside the astronomical eight-figure price tag of a Bugatti Chiron, each one comes with some pretty jaw-dropping maintenance costs.

From a set of tires to an oil change, Bugatti collectors need to fork out an enormous amount of cash to maintain their cars.

The maintenance cost of a Bugatti Chiron has de-facto become a matter of public record because so many influencers and collectors who own one are quite open about how much it costs.

For example, a Bugatti Chiron requires an oil change every 14 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, and that’s going to cost you just under $25,000.

The same goes with wheels and tires.

A set of wheels cost $49,904 and if you want to ride on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires you need to spend an additional $41,919.

And theoretically you’re supposed to do that because, according to Bugatti, that’s the best way to maximize the car’s performance.

Within four years, you also need to replace the front brake discs, and the pads.

You also need to change brake fluid, replace air duct coolers and turbochargers.

And that’s not the end, because Bugatti also recommends changing the fuel tank.

The bill for that comes at – you might want to grab a seat for this – just under $210,000.

You can buy an Audi R8 with that money.

And make sure you don’t lose your keys, because that’s going to cost $14,000.

All in all, owning and running Bugatti Chiron will cost you an average $100,000 a year on maintenance.

And bear in mind, this is without including relevant taxes and insurance, which of course also add up to the overall cost.

“If you can’t afford the maintenance cost, you can’t afford the car,” as the old adage goes.

This always applies, with any car, but it is especially true for a car of this caliber.
