Elon Musk – of all people – calls for greater oil and gas output

Elon Musk routinely breaks the internet with his controversial and occasionally bombastic tweets and he’s done it again.

Last week, the CEO of the largest EV-only automaker in the world, said “hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately”.

“Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,” he said.

He gave a straightforward explanation for his his 180° turn on green energy adding this would “obviously negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports.”

Several countries have been impacted by sanctions the EU, the U.S. and other nation states have levied against Russia because many of them – including Germany and the U.S. – are notoriously heavily dependent on Russian pipelines for gas and oil.

Prices for goods and services have been going up across the board and that, coupled with roaring inflation, is doing harm to the economy, especially for the lower classes.

Musk has always maintained that his main goal is to accelerate and help the transition from fossil fuel to sustainable energy but he’s also said, time and again, that this can’t happen overnight and we’ll still need to use oil in the foreseeable future.
