Rural Australia was hiding something extraordinary — the world’s fastest truck, an HSV Maloo R8.

That’s right, the fastest pickup doesn’t reside in America, but is all-Australian and isn’t even from the current generation.

To top it off, it was an extremely rare example that any avid collector would pay dearly for.

This gem was unfortunately locked inside a garage for more than 15 years, before someone finally rescued it.

World’s fastest truck abandoned for 15 years in Australia

Folks from the AMMO NYC YouTube channel were traveling through rural Australia when they came across the rare gem.

Now, they didn’t know anything about it beforehand, so what they found came as a massive surprise.

They were stoked to learn it was a 2006 HSV Maloo R8 ute, the world’s fastest truck made in Australia.

Well, the fastest production truck, at least.

Jet engine-powered trucks like this one can’t exactly fairly compete against production-grade vehicles.

For context, a ute is a utilitarian vehicle similar to a pickup truck but has a coupé-like appearance.

It’s Australia and New Zealand’s version of a pickup truck.

This truck actually made its way to the Guinness World Records for being the world’s fastest ute on May 26, 2006.

It took first place from the previous best, which was a Dodge Ram SRT-10 pickup truck.

Although the Ram SRT-10 is a force to be reckoned with, it simply wasn’t fast enough to hold onto the title.

This YouTuber converted his truck into the world’s first Dodge Demon Truck, but modified vehicles sadly aren’t eligible for land speed records.

Nothing as fast as the HSV Maloo R8

The Maloo set a land speed record when Australian racing legend Mark Skaife drove it at 168mph (271.44km/h).

That’s certainly an impressive number, and most modern pickups today, including the Cybertruck Cyberbeast edition, don’t even come close to it.

We’re not saying the Cybertruck isn’t fast — it can even beat a Lambo in a street race.

But the Maloo was in a league of its own.

It could also give the Ford F-150 Raptor, which can climb hills effortlessly, a run for its money.

The Maloo these YouTubers found was the exact same example that Mark Skaife used to set the speed record.

That only adds to its value, making it an eye candy for collectors.

After finding the relic, the guys gave the world’s fastest truck its first wash in 15 years, and it looked ready to conquer the track again.

This has to be one of the best barn finds we’ve ever seen.
