Residents of New York will be seeing more and more bullet-proof supercars like Lamborghinis on the roads despite their sky-high prices.

The super-wealthy are splurging on armored Lamborghinis, plus Mercedes G-Wagens, but this isn’t about showing off.

Incredibly, this has come as a direct response to carjacking across Manhattan.

So you may end up seeing plenty of these mobile fortresses as you walk the streets of the Big Apple.

Demand for armored cars is rising

Carjackings in New York have seen a steady rise in the popularity of armored supercars.

The work is undertaken by companies such as Bespoke Home & Yacht Security.

The company is led by ex-Austrian Commando Matthias Fitzhum.

His team transforms not only Lamborghinis but Mercedes G-Wagens and Range Rovers as well.

Fizthum has said that families and executives are worried about ambushes or sudden carjackings while they drive.

This is what ultimately means we might see more of these armored supercars on the streets.

So, if you fancy bulking up the defenses on your Lamborghini Huracan, then you’re in luck.

While outwardly they have all the hallmarks of radical super-wealthy flexing, the changes to the cars are functional too.

The armored Lamborghinis have high-grade ballistic protection

According to the company, reinforcements to the cars include B6 and B7 ballistic protection.

That’s strong enough to stop rounds from assault rifles.

Plus, run-flat tires mean the car will keep going even after sustaining damage.

The company has even thought about what could happen if the engine is targeted.

Your Huracan or G-Wagen could come with an engine bay fire suppression system, allowing you to still escape.

The supercars can even have hidden strobe lights if you so wish, perhaps making the criminals believe you are, in fact, from law enforcement.

If you want to shout for help, you can get external microphones fitted.

They allow passengers to communicate with passersby without rolling the windows down.

Other additions include permanently sealed windows and oxygen overpressure systems.

So if you’re ready to armor up your Lambo, then expect to pay anything from $250,000 to over $1 million for your enhanced protection.
