Chinese EV minivan charges in lightning speed and outdoes any western EV

Not as quick as filling up your tank with gas, but we're getting there.
  • This is the Li Auto Mega – a luxury EV van
  • According to the automaker, it can go from 10-80 percent of charge in just 10 minutes
  • The car brand actually shared a video to prove this is true and not just a rumor

There are two main issues with electric vehicles, and automakers have been trying to fix these two problems for years.

This Chinese EV brand, apparently, is doing better than most.

Range anxiety is a real deal-breaker when it comes to EV adoption.

There are two things automakers have to do to fix that: they’ve got to improve the car’s range, and make sure charging doesn’t take ages.

This new minivan, called Li Auto Mega, is a game changer when it comes to the latter problem.

According to the Chinese EV automaker, the vehicle can give you up to 310 miles of range – 500 km – in just 10 minutes.

That’s very nearly as quick as filling up the tank of a truck with gas.

It’s funny how the car world has changed.

It used to be all about 0-60 times – now it’s about charging times.

But digression aside, this is pretty good.

And Li Auto actually timed that and shared a video to prove a point.

In the clip, the ‘Mega’ van (what a name) goes from 10 percent to 80 percent (of a full charge) in 10 minutes and 36 seconds.

There is more good news, by the way.

Because it means that 310 miles is just 80 percent of the available range.

With a full tank, the Mega will be able to cover up to 380+ miles – or 610+ km.

The Mega is essentially a luxury van designed for passengers.

Kinda like a luxury sedan, except it’s a van.

And an expensive one at that – Li Auto predicts a price tag not far from six figures.

This is further proof that, when it comes to the EV market, automakers from China are a force to be reckoned with.

Even though Musk’s wild prediction came true, and the Model Y was indeed the best-selling automobile in the world in 2023, it was still not enough to retain dominance in the EV market.

Despite its best effort, Tesla still lost its dominance in the EV market to BYD.
