Elon Musk is determined to take humanity to Mars and he’s now given us a proposed deadline – and a ‘game-plan’ for that.

According to the CEO of SpaceX, “one million people” could be reaching Mars soon.

Elon Musk has become quite vocal about this in recent years.

He believes that depopulation, along with AI, may be the greatest threat to the survival of our species, and he thinks our best bet is to become a “multi-planet” species.

In true Musk style, he gave an exceedingly optimistic estimation, which was obviously impossible to achieve, and then he gave another one.

And this’ll also be almost certainly be impossible to achieve.

Years ago, Musk said humans would land on Mars by 2024, and now he’s saying that might happen in 2029.

It sounds unlikely but, it must be said, Musk is taking it rather seriously and he has a plan for that.

Replying to a post on X, Musk said he and his team are “mapping out a game plan” to get a million people to Mars.

“Civilization only passes the single-planet Great Filter when Mars can survive even if Earth supply ships stop coming,” he said.

This, by the way, is something Musk had already said on several occasions.

The Great Filter concept is an interesting one.

It is the idea that development of life goes through various stages, and there are barriers, chief among which is a high probability of self-destruction.

Musk believes we must become a multi-planet species.

Furthermore, he believes we should get back to the Moon because it’s “been too long” since we were there.

And we should establish a base on the Moon first, and then on Mars.

Well, it seems we’re certainly trying.

NASA is collaborating with Musk’s SpaceX to establish a base on the Moon.

And the US Space Agency is also developing a new (unmanned) aircraft to explore Mars in order to replace the one NASA already had, which crashed upon landing during a recent mission.

Fortunately, it managed to capture some pretty spectacular images before it ‘died’.
