Imagining a world where supercars soar through the skies
- We asked AI to imagine what skies full of flying cars might look like
- Interestingly, AI has a very clear idea of what said ‘cars’ look like
- Just because the skies are full of cars, it doesn’t mean the streets would suddenly be empty

We’ve been hearing about flying cars and eVTOLs a lot recently – but what would the sky actually look like if it were full of flying supercars?
AI-image generator, MidJourney, came up with some pretty interesting results.
The first doubt that springs to mind is whether flying supercars would look more like cars or like airplanes.

With perhaps the only exception of the Aeroht by XPENG, most flying cars we’ve seen so far do not actually look like cars at all.
They definitely look more helicopters.
AI seems to be on the same page.
The bodywork of the renders it created are supercar-like, but the overall impression is you’re looking at an aircraft – not a car.
Interestingly, this also begs another question: if the skies are full of cars, does that mean the streets are empty?
Probably not.
Based on some of the images we created, it seems the streets would be just as busy as the skies.
But there would be a big difference between what’s up there and what’s down here, which brings us back to the aforementioned conundrum.
This is because, in some of the images we’ve designed, it’s clear that even AI thinks cars on the road are exactly that, cars, whereas ‘cars’ in the sky are something else.
The AI tool we used designed all sorts of aircraft with this second set of instructions we gave it, but the one thing they have in common is they don’t look like cars at all.
At the rate at which AI and air travel is progressing, we’re probably going to find out soon anyway.
