Old race cars left behind to collect dust on once-famous racetrack in North Carolina

This forgotten NASCAR racetrack was once a crown jewel of the racing circuit, and now it’s filled with old race cars that have been left to rust.

For old-school racing fans, this place is quite the treasure trove.

Hidden in the woods of Hillsboro, North Carolina, the racetrack is dotted with forgotten classic race cars.

Now they’re being rediscovered.

Forgotten NASCAR racetrack

Most of the North Carolina racetrack has now been taken over by nature.

The old track was rediscovered by the guys from the Mobile Instinct YouTube channel, who are known for making videos of abandoned places.

Originally named the Occoneechee Racetrack, it was one of NASCAR’s first tracks in the country.

Although abandoned and forgotten for decades, the track was once a prominent part of America’s racing circuit.

The racetrack was renamed the Orange Speedway in 1954.

The track itself is one thing, but the old race cars that sit collecting dust are another entirely.

Now barely more than scrap metal, these cars were some of the best-performing vehicles of their time.

According to the YouTuber, the reason the track was eventually closed down was due to people moving in close to the tracks.

Eventually, there were too many complaints from the neighbors, so NASCAR decided to move the racetrack someplace else.

Interestingly, the track that replaced the Orange Speedway was the Alabama International Motor Speedway which is now known as Talladega.

Let’s hope Talladega doesn’t face the same grim future.
