Omega has just launched a Mars-inspired iteration of the Speedmaster, which is by far and away the brand’s best-selling piece.
And speaking of which, this timepiece is a guaranteed market hit.

Aptly named Speedmaster ‘Marstimer X-33’, the new model is a ‘sequel’ to asimilar model that Omega launched a few years ago called the ‘Skywalker‘.
CHECK THIS OUT!
The Marstimer is an ‘ana-digi’ watch, which is watch jargon for analog and digital.
This is because you’ll find analog hands and a digital display on the dial.
There’s a lot going on here so let’s try and break it down.

First and foremost, you’ve got ‘normal’ hands to tell time: the minute and hour hands are white, while the second hand features a nice black-to-red gradient.
In addition to that, there’s a digital display that you can use for a couple of interesting functions, among which we find one that you can use to tell time on Mars.
It’s called Mars Time Coordinate – or MTC, for short – and it was approved and patented by the European Space Agency (ESA).
For reference, a day on Mars is 39 minutes and 35 seconds longer than a day on Earth.
This feature is obviously a bit pointless, but it’s cool.

The watch is made from titanium and powered by a quartz module, which makes it a bit harder to digest the next part: the price.
It costs $6,400, and that’s not cheap for a watch that’s powered by batteries.
About Mars-themed watches
The new Omega Marstimer joins a growing list of Mars-themed watches that are currently available in the market.
They’re available in many forms and price categories.
For example, we’ve previously mentioned a trio of timepieces that Fossil made in partnership with Staple.
One of the available models is finished in a Mars-friendly shade of red, inspired by the color of the planet.
You can read all about it here.

Another Mars watch worth mentioning is the Konstantin Chaykin Mars Conqueror MK3.
Just like the Omega, it is designed to tell time on Earth and Mars but it looks a lot more weird, and it is a lot more expensive.
Limited to 8 pieces, it costs $20,000.
