Passenger films perfectly timed synchronized parallel takeoff from San Francisco

  • Due to the unique geographical structure of San Francisco, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has parallel runways
  • Parallel takeoffs and landings are not uncommon at SFO
  • This isn’t just for show, it’s something that’s designed for safety and efficiency

A passenger called Dan Dectis took to Instagram to share one of the most amazing videos we’ve seen today.

In the clip, you can see two passenger planes taking off in perfect synchrony.

CHECK IT OUT IN THE CLIP DOWN BELOW!

The clip was filmed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which is known for these sorts of takeoffs and landings due to its spaced parallel runways.

Parallel runways are rare, but building them like that at SFO was a necessity due to the unique geography of San Francisco.

And synchronized takeoffs and landings are actually not just for show.

It is – as it turns out – something they do for safety, and also to maximize efficiency and traffic capacity.

In theory, at least, this isn’t limited to one specific aircraft, so theoretically it could be done with the massive Airbus A380 as well.

Now that’s definitely not something you see every day.
