Sony is finally launching its new portable PlayStation, dubbed PlayStation Portal.
It does everything a PlayStation 5 does, except it’s smaller and, well, portable.
Pretty neat, right?

The handheld device is designed to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi and is fitted with an eight-inch LCD screen running at 1080p resolution.
Hideaki Nishino, VP at Sony Interactive Entertainment, says the portable PlayStation can be connected to your PS5 directly.
“PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal,” Nishino said.
PlayStation Portal is built with a screen in the middle and a controller around the screen, like most handheld consoles.
However, in most handheld devices, the controller is seamlessly integrated into the screen whereas Sony decided to go about it a different way.
As a result, PlayStation portal looks like somebody slashed a PS5 controller in half and then glued it back onto screen.
It looks a bit weird but Sony says this layout makes it easier to use.
We still don’t know when players will be able to buy the PlayStation Portal because Sony hasn’t given us a date yet.
However, we do know it’s going to be priced at $199, exactly the same as its main rival, the Nintendo Switch Lite.

Sony’s portable PlayStation was received with mixed feelings, and not everyone’s happy.
While many praised its design and its HD screen, others pointed out that it requires a PS5 (which costs $499) and WiFi to work, which isn’t ideal.
Its lack of Bluetooth compatibility also drew some criticism.
