There’s been a lot of discussion over Tesla’s FSD (Full Self-Driving) abilities, especially following Mark Rober’s viral video of a ‘Wile E. Coyote test’.
The Wile E. Coyote test references the Looney Toons character who runs into a painted backdrop because he thinks it’s real.
YouTuber Mark Rober created a fake wall with a road on it to see if Tesla’s FSD abilities actually worked and the results had the internet in a tailspin.
Now an avid Tesla fan has recreated the test and the video is leaving people with more questions than answers.

The original YouTuber’s Wile E. Coyote test
In the original Wile E. Coyote test, the YouTuber Mark Rober tested a Tesla Model Y against a Lexus RX and the results were surprising.
Like in Loony Toons when Wile E. Coyote runs into a wall, the YouTuber set up a fake background to see if the Tesla – which lacks LiDar sensors – could rely fully on the Tesla FSD capabilities to stop before it hit the obstacle.
The LiDar detectors on the Lexus worked as they should, pulling the SUV to a stop, but the Tesla Model Y EV smashed right through the wall, suggesting that the Tesla’s lack of LiDar sensors makes the Tesla dangerous.
Tesla fans were struggling with this idea so this fan Kyle Paul (@alsetcenter) decided to recreate the Wile E. Coyote test with his own Tesla.

The recreation left an even bigger question mark
A lot of commenters on the original test had a problem with the fact that Rober used the Tesla Model Y which is equipped with HW3 autopilot hardware.
Paul recreated the test using his Tesla Model Y with the HW3 autopilot abilities and again the Tesla didn’t recognize the fake wall, he had to brake himself as he was driving towards a wall that was attached to a truck.
The X user then borrowed a friend’s Cybertruck equipped with HW4 autopilot abilities which recognized the wall everytime.
This just leaves an even bigger question mark because it shows that the Tesla HW3 FSD is not as good as LiDar but HW4 in the Cybertruck is the same.
Maybe it shows that Tesla’s newer vehicles are safer than the older ones, but we’re sure we’ll see plenty more recreations to this controversial Wile E. Coyote test.
Taking a cue from @MarkRober's Tesla wall crash, I couldn’t resist diving into the action myself. I set up an experiment to recreate the crash and test if I’d get the same outcome. Check out the video to see how it all unfolds!
