1990 custom Chevrolet pickup truck is strange yet desirable

A super-rare Chevrolet custom pickup truck is up for auction and its bodywork is sure to divide opinions. 

The Shadi 2000 Chevrolet pickup is quite unlike any car you’ll have ever seen before.

From the back, it looks like a standard, albeit quite low, pickup but from the front it’s…well something else entirely.

It’s a bit like the mullet of the car world but unlike the mullet, I think it looks kind of awesome. 

The unusual sportscar/pickup hybrid is actually a fiberglass body kit that could be mounted on your standard Chevvy pickup.

It’s a bold choice to say the least.

How rare is the Shadi 2000 Chevrolet pickup?

As it’s a kit, it’s hard to know exactly how many Shadi 2000s were out on the roads, but according to Mecum Auctions, which is selling the car, it’s very few. 

The auction house reckons there were only around seven Shadi 2000 conversions produced and there are just four still known to exist. Meaning the car is as rare as it is odd-looking. 

This particular car has 53,909 miles on the clock, a 350 CI V-8 engine, power steering, and power breaks. 

It’s clearly been well looked after by its owner and has been kitted out with LED lights on the underside of the truck, that can be controlled with a remote, a new battery, and new National Renegade XT tires. 

What’s it like inside?

Inside, the car has red velour bucket seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a woodgrain trim and console. 

The Shadi 2000 is likely to have a bit of a polarizing effect on car-lovers, but I have to admit, I’m a fan. 

The pickup is part of a long list of divisive car designs – joining the likes of the Fiat Multipla, the Aston-Martin Lagonda and – more recently – Tesla’s Cybertruck, which has attracted plenty of critics.

One man took his love of the Lagonda to dizzying heights after splashing out on 24 of them for his car collection. Yep – you did read correctly. 

British businessman Rodger Dudding is so enamored with the ‘love-it-or-hate-it’ motor that he’s snapped up two dozen of them over the years. 

“They’re quite temperamental but very relaxing to drive,” Dudding said. “And they have so much presence. In London, it literally stops traffic.” I’ll bet.
