Apparently, Apple is finally planning a Calculator app for the iPad, more than 14 years after launching the device.
As things stand it’s just a rumor, but it comes from a source familiar with the matter.

If the rumor is true, iPadOS 18 will include a built-in Calculator app for all iPad models that are compatible with the software update.
The software update is expected to be unveiled during the opening keynote of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, 2024.
In other Apple-related news, Siri is getting an exciting reboot for iOS 18, while the tech giant recently confirmed something almost all iPhone users do causes devices to slow down and lose battery.
Just last week, AppleInsider reported that macOS 15 will feature a revamped Calculator app.
Apparently, it will gain a resizable window, integration with the Notes app, a sidebar that lists recent calculations, and more.
While those details have yet to be officially confirmed, it’s entirely possible the updated Mac app will be based on the new iPad app.
You may be thinking that a new iPad app is hardly breaking news, but the lack of an official Calculator app on the device has been a long-running meme on social media, given that it is the most basic of tools.
Instead, iPad users have to rely on third-party calculator apps found in the App Store, like pCalc and Calcbot.
Back in June 2020, Apple’s software engineering chief, Craig Federighi, told tech reviewer Marques Brownlee that the company simply ‘hadn’t gotten around’ to releasing a ‘great’ Calculator app for the iPad.
“That day may come,” he added.
It’s expected that the first beta of iPadOS 18 will be released immediately after the WWDC keynote, with the update widely released in September.
Fingers crossed we get Instagram and WhatsApp for the iPad next.
