There’s no shortage of scams out there involving Apple products.
With the new iPhone 15 just dropping, Apple appears to have implemented a new security measure to protect consumers buying the new handset.
It’s a simple yet effective solution – but people aren’t convinced it will work for long.

In a video shared by Majin Bu on X, we can see that the iPhone 15 boxes have some labels and QR codes that only appear under UV light.
These holograms help consumers and even Apple identify whether that sealed box is, in fact, genuine or not.
Although this is a small detail, it could be enough to stop someone buying an iPhone 15 that isn’t actually new or genuine.
It’s a little known fact that some sellers repackage used or refurbished devices as new, using fake boxes that are replicas of the originals made by Apple.
These devices are then sold at like-new prices.
It comes as no surprise Apple hasn’t mentioned anything about the ingenious security measure, as it would make it easier for scammers to replicate these holograms.
People have been quick to point out, though, it won’t be long before scammers cotton on.
“One month for those holograms to be on fake boxes,” one user commented on the video.
“I’m sure some Chinese factories are working at the moment to recreate a fake one,” another said.
“UV light sales set to hit all-time high thanks to iPhone packaging,” a third quipped.
All valid comments, but there are other steps that can be taken to check that a device is brand new.
These include paying attention to the box and comparing with it other iPhone boxes, checking the box’s serial number, and checking the device’s serial number and IMEI match what’s printed on the box.
Pre-orders of the iPhone 15 opened last Friday, and they’ve started hitting stores today (September 22).
According to Apple, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will be available in 20 additional countries starting next week.
