An amazing video has gone viral showing a car driving down Germany’s Autobahn at the same speed as a plane.

Germany’s Autobahn – federal motorway – is famous for having no speed limit in some areas.

In this video, it seems that the driver saw a plane flying in the sky above the motorway and decided to try to race it.

You know you’ve truly arrived in Germany, the land of the Autobahn, when even jumbo jets can’t keep up with the speed demons on the road below.

The video was uploaded on Instagram by a private plane pilot who stated in the video that his plane was going 220 km/h (137 mph).

Germany’s need for speed is world-renowned but seeing it from an aerial perspective hammers that point home.

So fasten your seatbelts folks, as it looks like on this motorway, the cars are the ones truly cleared for takeoff.

From above, it might even look like a real-life motorway speed chase.

Of course, we aren’t recommending driving this fast – in fact, it’s a pretty controversial topic in Germany – as it could be seriously dangerous, and result in serious problems for not only the driver of the car, but other road users too.

However, there are no speed limits on the Autobahn in certain sections, so this guy is within the law.

There are just miles of open road for one to truly open up the throttle.

Around sixty percent of the Autobahn is unrestricted, meaning there are no speed limits.

There’s just an ‘advisory’ speed limit of 130 km/h – or 80 mph.

It’s probably better to stick to that, especially if you’re not a professional driver.

Remember – the other road users might not be professional drivers either!

Recently, we also saw a millionaire take his Bugatti Chiron to outrageous speeds on the Autobahn.

However, one of the reasons why there’s no speed limit on the motorway is there’s not as much need for one as in some other places.

Germany has one of the lowest per capita, traffic-related deaths in the world, with 3.7 deaths per 100,000 people.

Nowadays it’s very common for Germans to use the Autobahn to test the top speed of their cars.

Considering how Germany is home to many manufacturers, you often see a supercar cruising down the motorway at breakneck speed.

Still, it is not particularly safe to drive at such speeds, despite there being no limits.

However, it is truly an interesting concept that is only possible in Germany for now.
