One ancient Chevy Silverado owner has been faced with its impending doom, but as a last-ditch effort to get an ancient Chevrolet up and running again, TikTok advised him to get a $2 bottle of oil.

The Chevy Silverado is one of America’s longest-serving pick-ups, tried and tested through the ages.

But this man was faced with a huge transmission problem.

Would a $2 bottle of oil be the fix to all of his issues? Or a catalyst for the fall of a giant?

Can a cheap oil fix save this Chevy Silverado from Chevrolet heaven?

Nobody enjoys spending money on getting their cars fixed.

Even owners of the most expensive cars in the world look for super-cheap replacement parts, rather than forking out tens of thousands of dollars every year on mundane upkeep.

But for many, it is necessary tasks like this that keep cars on the road for longer.

In this instance, one 272k-mile Chevy Silverado owner was met by a failing transmission and documented what he thought would be a decent $2 fix.

In an upload to TikTok, Carsrme2 used a bottle of Bar’s Leaks Automatic Transmission Repair, claiming that it should get his truck back up and running.

“We’re about to find out if this $2 will save my transmission. I definitely think she’s busted, but we’re gonna see if we can make it home,” he said.

The oil was added into the transmission without doing a full change, and it was soon evident that there were more issues that a simple top-up would heal.

Va-car Morghulis – all cars must die

At the time of writing, seven days after the upload, the Chevy Silverado remains broken.

The quick $2 fix gave the Chevrolet pickup just enough juice to move a full five feet before dying again.

The online personality has revealed that they tried another transmission-fixing product, which ended up ruining the integral engine part, leading the user to get an entirely new transmission.

TikTok users claimed: “You should have done a transmission fluid change. Then pour the mixture in with the fresh trans fluid.”

Sometimes a cheap fix really isn’t the right way to go.
